Cabernet Franc is a beautiful grape variety that’s making big waves in the South African wine community. Lesser known to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc is just as formidable and can be taken just as seriously. At Mischa Estate we strive to create a Cabernet Franc that expresses a variety of red and black fruit flavours, rather than the green flavours often associated with the cultivar. The Mischa Estate Cabernet Franc 2021 has substantial body, but does not overpower the palate due to the humble use of a range of new and older French oak. The multitude of different flavours and aromas speak volumes to the quality of this wine.

APPEARANCE: Deep ruby in colour with a burgundy rim.

NOSE: Dark berry aromas such as blackcurrant and blackberries, followed by raspberry and spicy earth notes.

PALATE:A medium to full bodied wine with dark fruit flavours of blackberry and plum, and subtle secondary flavours of French oak, white pepper and red berries.

AGEING POTENTIAL: 5 to 10 years, but can be enjoyed right away.

VITICULTURAL ANALYSIS

Cabernet Franc is one of the 5 red grape varieties used in Bordeaux blends and originates from the Loire Valley in France. Being one of the parent cultivars of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc is more than capable of being vinified as a single cultivar wine. On Mischa Estate, Cabernet Franc is very close to our hearts and a lot of attention is given to the Cabernet Franc vineyard to improve the growing conditions and to create the optimal microclimate for the grapes.
