CABERNET FRANC 2023 QUICK NOTES
APPEARANCE: Deep ruby in colour with a burgundy rim.
NOSE: The 2023 Mischa Estate Cabernet Franc has a wonderfully complex bouquet of aromas that intrigues the consumer. Predominantly showcasing darker berry aromas such as black currant and blackberries, the wine opens up beautifully with subtle hints of raspberry and spicey earth notes. Decanting and swirling of the glass transforms this wine into an expression of complex aromas on a canvas of the Mischa “It” factor.
PALATE: This is a medium—to full-bodied wine with a seamless balance of ripe and fruity tannins and expressive acidity. Dark fruit flavours, such as blackberry and plum, dance on the palate while subtle secondary flavours of soft French oak, white pepper spice, and red berries develop on the mid-palate. The long, fruit-driven finish is strengthened by the rich tannin structure, which will ensure the drinker craves glass after glass.
PAIRING: This wine drinks well on its own, but pairs beautifully with rich, tomato-based lamb or beef stews such as the traditional “potjie kos”. Roasted vegetables are a must with any red meat-based dishes to bring out the most in this wine.
AGEING POTENTIAL: This wine will benefit from bottle aging and will reach its full potential in 5 to 10 years. That is not to say that it can’t be enjoyed right away.
VITICULTURAL ANALYSIS
Cabernet Franc is one of the 5 red grape varieties used in Bordeaux blends and originates from the Loire Valley in France. Being one of the parent cultivars of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc is more than capable of being vinified as a single cultivar wine. On Mischa Estate, Cabernet Franc is very close to our hearts, and a lot of attention was given to the Cabernet Franc vineyard to improve the growing conditions and to create the optimal microclimate for the grapes.
