The Mischa Estate Merlot 2020 is one of kind, being a very limited production of only 7000 bottles produced. As with all Mischa Estate wines, we take pride in the love and care that goes into each vintage and every bottle. This wine is a medium bodied Merlot but punches well above its weight and can at the same time be taken very seriously. Lovely fruity flavours and aromas are backed by well balanced secondary flavours and aromas due to proper maturation in oak and being masterfully blended together to create a very special wine.

MERLOT 2020 QUICK NOTES

APPEARANCE: Medium to intense Ruby in colour with an alluring rim and sheen.

NOSE: Primary aromas of fruit such as sweet and sour cherry, blueberries and rose petal. Secondary aromas of tobacco, liquorice spice and fynbos.

PALATE: Initial flavours of cherries and blackberry. The well rounded and fruity tannin structure opens up an explosion of wild berry, blueberry and slight liquorice spice.

FOOD PAIRING: Drinks beautifully on its own, but accompanies dishes of roast lamb, T-bone steak and mixed vegetables very well.

VITICULTURAL ANALYSIS

Merlot is one of the 5 grape varieties used typically in Bordeaux blends but is also very popular as a single cultivar wine. Usually producing more delicate style red wines, Merlot typically blends very well with the bolder Cabernet Sauvignon. At Mischa we blended a small amount of Cabernet Franc with our Merlot, and matured the wine in Tight grained French oak for 12 months to produce an absolute gem of a Merlot for everyone to enjoy.
