MERLOT 2020 QUICK NOTES
APPEARANCE: Medium to intense Ruby in colour with an alluring rim and sheen.
NOSE: Primary aromas of fruit such as sweet and sour cherry, blueberries and rose petal. Secondary aromas of tobacco, liquorice spice and fynbos.
PALATE: Initial flavours of cherries and blackberry. The well rounded and fruity tannin structure opens up an explosion of wild berry, blueberry and slight liquorice spice.
FOOD PAIRING: Drinks beautifully on its own, but accompanies dishes of roast lamb, T-bone steak and mixed vegetables very well.
VITICULTURAL ANALYSIS
Merlot is one of the 5 grape varieties used typically in Bordeaux blends but is also very popular as a single cultivar wine. Usually producing more delicate style red wines, Merlot typically blends very well with the bolder Cabernet Sauvignon. At Mischa we blended a small amount of Cabernet Franc with our Merlot, and matured the wine in Tight grained French oak for 12 months to produce an absolute gem of a Merlot for everyone to enjoy.
